NGC 7038 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Indians in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 220 million light years from the Milky Way and about 205,000 light years in diameter. She is the brightest member of the NGC 7038 group ( LGG 441 ).
The supernovae SN 1983L ( Type Ia ) and SN 2010dx (Type II) were observed here.
The object was discovered by John Herschel on September 30, 1834 .
