NGC 6982 is an annular bar- shaped spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation of Indians in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 210 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 60,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 6984 .
The object was discovered on July 8, 1834 by John Herschel .
