Georgie Fame
Georgie Fame (born June 26, 1943 in Leigh , Lancashire , England ; actually Clive Powell ) is a British rhythm and blues musician.
Life
At the age of 16, Clive Powell was signed by manager Larry Parnes , who was known for giving musicians new names like Marty Wilde and Billy Fury . This is how Clive Powell became Georgie Fame .
From 1960 Fame played keyboard in Billy Fury's band , the Blue Flames , which he soon took over and with whom he topped the English charts in 1964 with "Yeh Yeh" and in 1966 with a cover version of the Bobby Hebb song Sunny .
After the Blue Flames disbanded in 1966, Fame began a solo career playing with Mitch Mitchell and John McLaughlin . His biggest solo hit was The Ballad of Bonnie & Clyde , the track reached number 1 in England on January 20, 1968, and Georgie Fame came in at number 9 in the German charts. In the same year he joined Count Basie and his orchestra Great Britain and Germany on. He also appeared in a vocal trio by Jon Hendricks and Annie Ross .
From 1971 to 1973 Fame formed the duo Fame & Price with Alan Price . You had a hit with Rosetta .
In 1974 there was a short, unsuccessful revival of the Blue Flames. Georgie Fame was relatively quiet in the 1970s and 1980s. Occasionally he published jazz recordings such as B. 1981 the album In Hoagland , on which he could be heard together with Hoagy Carmichael and Annie Ross, and 1989 the album A Portrait of Chet with musicians such as Frits Landesbergen and Ellen Helmus .
Between 1989 and 1997, Fame played the keyboards on all of Van Morrison's albums . The solo albums in the 1990s received consistently good reviews.
From 1998 Georgie Fame was a member of the Rhythm Kings of his friend Bill Wyman . On his solo albums he now mainly dealt with jazz and blues . Published in 2000 Georgie Fame's acclaimed jazz album Poet in New York , the style of the Eddie Jefferson developed and Jon Hendricks -driven Vocalese is inspired style.
