Parish before the merger on January 1, 2017

Montana is a parish of the dean's office of Sierre and a civic community with a civic council of the district of Sierre and was a political municipality in the French-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland until December 31, 2016 . It is part of the Crans-Montana holiday region . On January 1, 2017, Montana merged with the municipalities of Chermignon , Mollens and Randogne to form the new municipality of Crans-Montana.

In addition to Montana, the former municipality included the village of Corin dans le vignoble, part of Champsabé, the hamlet of Diogne and the resort of Montana-Vermala.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1243. The political municipality was created in 1905 from part of the former large municipality of Lens.

Narrow streets with hotels and apartments, cafes and restaurants, shops and administrative facilities characterize the center of Crans-sur-Sierre and Montana. There is a high volume of traffic in the main season. There are several ponds with green spaces on the outskirts.

Crans-Montana became known through numerous events in alpine skiing, for example the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1987 in Crans-Montana. There are a total of 160 kilometers of ski slopes. On the southern edge of the Plaine Morte Glacier north of the village there are three ski lifts that allow skiing even in summer.

The Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, with two golf courses (9 and 18 holes), organizes the Omega European Masters every year .

The Étang de la Moubra is strange .
