Icogne is a political municipality and a civil parish in the district of Sierre in the French-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland .

The small reservoir Lac d'Icogne serves to supply the community with water . The community is part of the Crans-Montana holiday region .

Icogne lies in the Lienne valley and is bordered to the east by the Lens. In the north-west of the municipality is the Lac de Tseuzier reservoir , from which Lienne rises. In the northeast, the municipality extends into the Wildstrubel massif on the Plaine Morte glacier .

Neighboring communities of Icogne are Lenk ( BE ) in the north, Crans-Montana in the northeast, Lens in the east, Saint-Léonard in the south and Ayent in the west .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1233 as Ucogni . The political municipality was created in 1905 from part of the former large municipality of Lens.
