Miège in the Valais
Location of the municipality

Miège ( German  Miesen ) is a political municipality and a civil parish in the district of Sierre and a parish of the Deanery of Sierre in the French-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland .

geography

Miège is located 2 km north of Sierre on the southern slope of Mont Bovin . In the east, the Raspille stream forms the natural border against Salgesch and the German-French language border. The place is located in the middle of the wine-growing region, which makes up the largest part of the municipality and is up to 824  m above sea level. M. goes up.

history

Miège was first mentioned in a document as Mieio in 1226. The first evidence of human presence are graves from the Iron Age and the early Middle Ages. In the 12th century, the place belonged to the episcopal rule of Sierre .

The political community has existed since 1839, and the civil parish was added in 1872.
