The municipality included the villages of Chandolin, Soussillon and Fang . The place Chandolin is located at 1936  m above sea level. M. and is thus one of the highest situated parishes in Europe and was the second highest situated parish in Switzerland before the merger (cf. Avers and ). A special feature is that the Maiensassen are located below the village.

history

Prehistoric shell stones have been found in the former municipal area . Chandolin is first mentioned as Eschandulyns around 1250 . A village community has been proven for Chandolin as early as the 16th century. Around 1600 the village community formed part of the Saint-Luc area . Until the end of the Old Confederation in 1798, Chandolin belonged to Kastlanei Anniviers in Zenden Sierre. During the Helvetic era , the parish was assigned to the parish of Luc (today Saint-Luc), but in 1821 it achieved the status of an independent parish.

Until 1804, Chandolin belonged to the large parish of Anniviers, which had its main church in Vissoie and then formed a parish with Saint-Luc (without catch, which remained with Vissoie). This connection was only severed in 1884. 1848 Chandolin was the only community in the valley, the transition of the properties of the Bishop of Sion advocated to the state of Valais. The village center of Chandolin was the structural model for the Swiss themed area in the Europapark ; In gratitude, the community made its managing director Roland Mack an honorary citizen.

On January 1, 2009, all municipalities in Val d'Anniviers were merged to form the new municipality of Anniviers .

economy

There is evidence of modest mining. The mining of copper began in 1836. The real source of income for Chandolin was discovered at the end of the 19th century: The first hotel opened its doors in 1897. Since 1916 a small power station provided electricity. In 1971 a chairlift was built.

It was not until 1960 that a road from Vissoie via St. Luc opened the village of Chandolin. As a result, the previously common seasonal emigration came to a standstill. At the beginning of the 21st century, Chandolin has become a winter and summer health resort. Despite the tourism, the emigration from the place is steady. In 2000 (census) around 28% of all employed people also worked as commuters.
