Günter Ehnert (born April 24, 1943 in Chemnitz ) is a German non-fiction author and publisher. His publications include the German, British and American hit lists since 1950.

Life

After studying at the Hamburg Advertising Academy, Günter Ehnert worked from 1965 to 1968 as advertising manager at Büsing & Fasch in Oldenburg and from 1968 to 1971 as deputy advertising manager at Deutsche Grammophon in Hamburg. He was responsible for the conception and editing of the customer magazine Musik-Boutique , which was distributed free of charge through record stores with a circulation of 500,000 copies. This was followed by a job as a freelance journalist in Hamburg. In 1975 he took on a position as head of promotion for Metronome Musik in Hamburg; at the German rock label Brain .

From 1974 Ehnert began with the first chart evaluations, which he published in the following period through the Taurus Press Verlag, which he founded. The first edition of the Lexikon Rock in Germany followed in 1975, and further, expanded editions followed in 1979 and 1984. All three editions were summarized on the CD-ROM Rock in Germany .

After years of litigation with Media Control , in 2005 the Federal Court of Justice granted Media Control's lawsuit against the publisher Taurus Press. Accordingly, Ehnert was prohibited from selling “hit balance sheet” statistics from the German charts in book form and on CD-ROM within the protection period for databases; All works are now freely available again.

Trivia

In 1984 Johnny Cash sued Taurus Press Verlag for citing in the 1982 edition of the Rockmusic Lexicon that Cash had been dishonorably discharged from the Air Force. Ehnert was able to prove that this formulation was already used in the Munzinger archive and at that time . Since 10,000 copies had already been sold and in order to avoid further trouble, Ehnert had the "un" blackened.
