Ellen Helmus
Ellen Helmus (born May 18, 1957 in Beverwijk ; † March 26, 2011 in Wanroij ) was a Dutch jazz and fusion musician ( flute , keyboard ).
Live and act
Helmus started on guitar before switching to flute. She studied at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag , where she was tutored by Sandy Mosse , Fred Leeflang and Ferdinand Povel . She became a member of Salsa d'Amsterdam and the Herman Dijkstra Big Band. With her own band, the Ellen H. Band , she played at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 1984 and 1986 and released albums in 1985. After she was honored with the Wessel-IIcken-Nachwuchs-Preis in 1984 , she also received international attention. She worked with Hubert Laws , was involved in Georgie Fame's album A Portrait of Chet (1989), and performed in New York and Indonesia. In the Netherlands she also appeared with the Metropole Orkest , with Pim Jacobs and Lex Jasper , in recent years repeatedly with the Gypsy Boys , the Rosenberg Trio , with Cor Bakker, but also with the singer Gé Reinders and with Ifang Bondi ( Daraja ).
