Werner Lener

Werner Lener (born May 11, 1941 in Stuttgart- Zuffenhausen ) is a German jazz pianist , composer and band leader. He "makes everything swing, what comes under his fingers", Dieter Zimmerle once characterized him .

Live and act

After ten years of classical piano training with concert pianist Erwin Kübler, Lener discovered jazz in 1957. After his first duo concerts, he founded the Darktown Jazz Band in 1958 , which he led over the decades. Between 1962 and 1966, the band performed successfully at the German and International Amateur Jazz Festival in Düsseldorf, released several albums since 1974 and toured internationally.

Lener recorded two albums with Klaus Osterloh , Charly Höllering , Joe Gallardo , Bernd K. Otto , Thomas Stabenow and Matthias Holtmann as Mister Wendelins Dixie-Band (for Orix-Verlag), as well as with Slick Salzer and since the 1990s other albums with his own trio. He performed as a soloist with u. a. Wolfgang Dauner and Joerg Reiter at the piano festival in the Stuttgart Liederhalle , but was also seen several times in Hanns Dieter Hüsch's social evening on television until 1999 .

He was also on tour with Peanuts Hucko , the American singer Carrie Smith, and was part of the band of the Swedish vibraphonist Lars Erstrand from 1982 to 1986 . Since 1985 he has played with Oscar Klein , since 1987 with Bill Ramsey . In 1988 he toured with René Franc and Katie Webster and also performed as a duo with the American pianist Johnny Varro . In 1982 he also took part in the recordings of a crime scene crime thriller at Dixieland Hall in Stuttgart . In 1993 he performed with the Flat Foot Stompers in San Francisco and at the Los Angeles Jazz Festival. The following year he gave concerts with Colin Dawson, Ken Peplowski and George Masso . In 1997 he and Benny Waters toured Switzerland and Germany and also performed at the Dubrovnik Jazz Festival. In the following years he also gave concerts with Jiggs Whigham , Gustl Mayer , Günter Lenz and Kurt Bong as well as in a duo with Dizzy Krisch . In 2002 he also founded the CD label BoogieBop Music and his own recording studio; he also presented jazz productions for children.

Prizes and awards

In 1968 Lener won a prize at the Mönchengladbach International Solo Piano Jazz Festival.
