Klaus Osterloh (born January 29, 1952 in Bremen ) is a German jazz trumpeter who has also performed as a soloist in early music on the baroque trumpet .

Live and act

Osterloh grew up in Duisburg and started playing the trumpet at the age of 9. During his classical trumpet training he played both church music (first concerts with the later baroque trumpeter Friedemann Immer ) as well as jazz in school bands and in the Düsseldorf jazz scene, where he appeared with the Klaus Esser Big Band and the Düsseldorf Atlanta Jazz Band. After studying music in Duisburg, he worked as a teacher for a few years and during this time he worked with the Duisburg Symphony Orchestra and the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1978 he moved to Stuttgart, where he became a member of Erwin Lehn's Südfunk dance orchestra and was also active with Bernd Rabe , the Darktown Jazz Band , Werner Lener and Peter Herbolzheimer . From 1983 to 2012 he was a member of the WDR Big Band Cologne .

Osterloh, who is connected to hot jazz , leads the Atlanta Jazzband Cologne, plays in a jazz-historical project with Frank Wunsch , the high society jazz 4tet and his hot jazz trio, in which he also sings. He taught for several years at the jazz seminar at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and has been a member of the Friedemann Immer trumpet consort, which interprets baroque music, since its foundation. He has been involved in numerous recordings with the WDR Big Band (including two albums that received a Grammy ), but also on recordings with Büdi Siebert , Francis Coppieters , the Allotria Jazzband , Peter Herborn , Charly Antolini and many other musicians.

In 1997 he was one of the initiators of the Dellbrücker Jazzmeile festival in his home town of Cologne-Dellbrück . The singer Dora Osterloh is his daughter.
