Philipp Sigismund von Lepel (born December 30, 1738 in Chinnow (now Polish: Chynowo) in the district of Usedom-Wollin ; † April 17, 1815 in Anklam ) was district administrator of the Usedom - Wollin district.

family

He came from the noble families of Lepel and was the son of Ernst Friedrich von Lepel (1704–1775), heir to Chinnow, Reckow, Swantust, Platschow and Schnatow, and the Ilse Margarethe von Bredow (1715–1792). Philipp Sigismund von Lepel was married to Ernestine Eleonore von Barfuß († 1774) for the first time from 1765 and to Catharina Friederike Caroline, born from Lepel (Gnitz), for the second marriage from 1778.

Education and career

After private lessons, he attended school in Berge monastery near Magdeburg from 1792 .

With the help of his father, he joined the later Dragoon Regiment of Lottum as a standard junker in 1755 . The following year he was promoted to lieutenant. During the Seven Years' War he took part in the battles of Prague , Kolin , Leuthen and Zorndorf . Because of his father's illness, he had to retire from active service in 1764 and take over the management of the family estates. In 1773 he had to ask for a deferral (indult) of his debts.

The West Pomeranian estates elected him in 1783 as the successor to Gregorius Friedrich von Schmalensee as district administrator for Usedom and Wollin. After his interim appointment in 1783, he had to face the major exam in 1784. Despite weaknesses in the oral as well as in the written exam, he was declared suitable for the post of district administrator. He held the office of district administrator until 1807.

The over-indebted family estates were placed under compulsory administration in 1784. In 1785, his debts were given at 35,093 thalers, while the value of the goods was estimated at 25,421 thalers. In 1787 he received a gift of 10,000 thalers from Friedrich Wilhelm II .
