Francis Coppieters

Francis Coppieters (* 7. September 1930 in Brussels , † 1990 in Germany) was a Belgian jazz pianist of modern jazz and arranger .

Coppieters, son of jazz and entertainment musician Fernand Coppieters , studied piano, harmony and counterpoint at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique in Brussels, played with Toots Thielemans in 1946/47 , at the Paris Jazz Festival in 1948 and was a member of Hazy's band from 1949 to 1951 Osterwald . In 1952 he recorded with Jacques Pelzer , in 1953 with Buck Clayton as well as with René Thomas , Bobby Jaspar and Jacques Pelzer. In 1953 he played with Boyd Bachman , in 1954 in Paris jazz clubs and from 1955 to 1957 with Aimé Barelli . In 1957 he became a member of Kurt Edelhagen's orchestra in Cologne , where he stayed until 1962. Coppieters also worked in Friedrich Gulda’s Eurojazz Orchestra (1964). Since 1962 he has worked mainly for radio and television as an arranger and composer. In 1968 he recorded the record Soul Beat in Charly Antolini's septet . He also worked with Klaus Weiss , Slide Hampton , Lucky Thompson , Wilton Gaynair and Jiggs Whigham .

He wrote instructions for improvisation for piano (Schott, Mainz, 1968). In 1975 he presented the album Piano Viberations and in 1986 the album Colors in Jazz .
