Stuff Combe

Stuff Combe (born March 12, 1924 in Bern , † December 29, 1986 in Morges ) was a Swiss drummer .

Live and act

Stuff Combe attended art schools in Lausanne and Zurich from 1940 to 1944 , turned to music in 1942 and played in Zurich in 1943 with Rio de Gregori and Philippe Brun , with whom the first recordings were made. In 1945 he went to Hazy Osterwald , in 1947 he played with Buddy Bertinat , Ernst Höllerhagen and Eddie Brunner . In 1950 he worked in Spain, 1951 in Paris, 1954 in Basel with Cédric Dumont . In 1957 he became a member of Kurt Edelhagen's orchestra in Cologne , with which he stayed until 1965. Since 1955 he has participated in numerous jazz festivals (such as with the Darktown Strutters Trio and the Raymond Droz Dixieland Group at the Zurich Jazz Festival in 1956) and worked a. a. with Benny Bailey , Buck Clayton , Bill Coleman , Stan Getz , Benny Carter , Kenny Clarke , Oscar Pettiford and Art Taylor . He also recorded records under his own name, also with the band of Kurt Edelhagen, Ernst Höllerhagen 1949, Hazy Osterwald, Johannes Fehring and Paul Kuhn . In 1966 he recorded under his own name; From 1967 Combe worked for Radio Suisse Romande . In 1970 he performed with the Beromünster entertainment orchestra (including with Dizzy Reece ) at the Zurich Jazz Festival , in 1977 he played again in Raymond Droz 'Quartet, and in 1979 in the Groupe Instrumental Romand . In the field of jazz he was involved in 143 recording sessions between 1943 and 1985. a. also with Roland Kovac , Géo Voumard , Lucky Thompson , Oskar Klein and the Groupe Instrumental Romand
