Dumont wrote his first compositions and arrangements while he was still in high school, for example for Teddy Stauffer . At the age of sixteen he won an international competition for arrangement in the 1930s and thus came into contact with musicians of international standing.

Although Dumont originally wanted to become a surgeon, after graduating from high school, at the insistence of his father, he pursued a career in music. At the Zurich Conservatory ( Zurich University of the Arts ) he learned to conduct and compose as well as to play the piano and cello. From 1942 to 1946 he played the piano in the Cabaret Cornichon . After graduation he worked a. a. in Hollywood as an arranger for film music and in Zurich as a record producer for the Jecklin company. During his military service in World War II, he headed the musical department of the soldiers' cabaret Zeigerkelle .

In 1946, Dumont founded and directed the entertainment orchestra of Radio Beromünster (originally Cedric Dumont entertainment orchestra ). The orchestra consisted of twelve musicians who all played several instruments and produced light music in all variations: classical, local, jazz and others. Through this activity he became known to the public and shaped contemporary Swiss music; He also contributed a lot to the popularity of Radio Beromünster. He worked with Carl de Groof as an arranger and composer. In his own compositions, Dumont used a different pseudonym for each style of music.

From 1966 he worked for the Swiss Radio DRS , which emerged from Radio Beromünster, as head of the entertainment department based in the Zurich radio studio. In 1973 he became director of the radio studio.

After his retirement, he was a member of the jury at the Zurich Jazz Festival and a lecturer in media studies at the University of Zurich . He also wrote books on culinary art - including phrasebooks for gourmets - and wine guides .
