Raymond Droz

Raymond Droz (born January 23, 1934 in La Chaux-de-Fonds ; † June 29, 2000 in Zurich ) was a Swiss jazz musician ( trombone , alto horn , percussion) who also emerged as a band leader and arranger.

Life

Droz won first prize as a trombonist at the first Zurich Jazz Festival in 1951. In the next few years he played with Claude Albert and with his own band Dixieland , from 1956 to 1957 as a technician for Radio Lausanne. In addition, there were tours with their own bands (which Charly Antolini , Jean-Pierre Bionda and Raymond Court belonged to). Between 1958 and 1964 he was a member of Kurt Edelhagen's orchestra in Cologne, and then became the first trombonist in the DRS radio entertainment orchestra in Basel and later in Zurich. There he also contributed many arrangements and compositions; he also arranged for the Ted Haenzi Big Band . He also performed with Clark Terry at the Montreux Jazz Festival and in Switzerland repeatedly with small pieces of information such as jazz containers . In 1985 he left the DRS orchestra due to health problems, but still played occasional sessions. He also recorded with Heinz Kretzschmar (1960), Bill Ramsey (1965), Buck Clayton (1966), Rex Stewart (1966), Othella Dallas (1967), Gabriela Schaaf (1979) and the New Zürich Jazztett (1981).
