Roman Dyląg (born February 22, 1938 in Cracow ) is a Polish jazz bassist.

Live and act

Dyląg played the accordion and piano as a child. He was educated at the Fryderyk Chopin Music School and the Conservatory in Krakow . From 1956 he played in the then important group "Hot Club Meloman" led by Jerzy Matuszkiewicz , after 1958 in the Matuszkiewicz Swingtett and then with the "Wreckers", with whom he appeared in 1962 at the Newport Jazz Festival . In the United States, he also recorded with Stan Getz and Don Ellis . He then played with Krzysztof Komeda and toured Scandinavia with Anita O'Day . He lived for a long time in Stockholm , where he worked and with Sveriges RadioBen Webster , George Russell , Eje Thelin and Rolf Ericson played. In Paris he performed with Bud Powell , Kenny Drew , Johnny Griffin and Phil Woods . He recorded a tribute album for Komeda with Tomasz Stańko , Michal Urbaniak and Urszula Dudziak . From 1972 to 1973 he worked as a studio bassist for the Radio Zurich entertainment orchestra. In 1978 he was at the SFB Big Band of Paul Kuhn worked since 1981 at DRS Big Band.

Dyląg has lived in Basel for many years , where he taught at the Basel School of Music and performed with musicians such as Remy Filipovitch , Remo Rau , Paul Grabowsky , Heinz von Hermann , Peter Appleyard , Lea Bischof , Jürg Morgenthaler and his own trio. He also formed a duo with Bruno Spoerri (e.g. expanded to include Thomas Moeckel ) and with Willy Bischof . Since 2007 he has occasionally played in Poland again; In 2009 he was awarded the Baranek Jazzowy (“Light of Jazz”) award at the Kraków Summer Festival .
