Willi Repke

Willi Repke (born May 7, 1911 ; † May 15, 2009 in Rheda-Wiedenbrück ) was a painter from Wiedenbrück .

Willi Repke was considered the last representative of the Wiedenbrück school . He was the son of the artist Heinrich Repke (* 1877 in Werne ; † 1962 in Wiedenbrück ), who owned a studio for Christian art in Wiedenbrück. Repke did an apprenticeship with his father. He later studied at art academies in Kassel , Florence and Munich . He became known nationwide through his flower still lifes. Other artistic emphases were found in landscape, animal and portrait painting as well as Christian motifs, whereby he made use of different painting techniques. Numerous portraits of regional celebrities were created by his hand. Between 1940 and 1944 a total of twelve of his works were exhibited at the Great German Art Exhibition during the Nazi era . These are landscape and peasant paintings as well as still lifes .

The artist, active into old age, died shortly after his 98th birthday in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. His son works as a glass artist in Rheda-Wiedenbrück today.
