Rolf Bänninger

Rolf Bänninger (born December 28, 1938 in Winterthur ; † April 22, 2017 there ) was a Swiss jazz drummer and businessman .

Live and act

Bänninger first began to play the accordion and then took clarinet lessons before choosing drums as his main instrument. The first recordings were made in 1960 when he appeared at the Amateur Jazz Festival Zurich with Hans Kennel , Henri Freivogel (ts), Andre Hager (p) and Markus Hoffmann (bass). In 1964 he was a member of the Swiss All Stars (with Franco Ambrosetti , Raymond Droz , Ueli Staub , Pierre Cavalli and George Gruntz, among others ). From the same year until their dissolution in 2013 he was a member of the Metronome Quintet , with whom he recorded numerous albums. He also played with Dennis Armitage and was also active with the New Harlem Ramblers . He also worked on radio, TV and film music recordings and albums by Armitage and Bruno Spoerri . In the field of jazz he was involved in 24 recording sessions from 1960 to 2002.

Prizes and awards

On the Jazz Festival Zurich he was awarded in 1959 to 1962 in different constellations.
