Peter Herborn

Peter Herborn (born September 25, 1955 in Essen ) is a German jazz musician (trombonist, band leader, arranger), composer and university lecturer.

Life

Herborn worked in the field of modern jazz as well as chamber music. In the 1980s he worked with the group Noctett , with Maria João , Leszek Zadlo and the septet Acute Insights he directed , with whom he recorded two albums. His preoccupation with the big band sound resulted in the albums "Large one" and "Large two". In 2005 he composed the opera Lorca about the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca for WDR .

In 1988 he co-founded the jazz music division of the Folkwang Hochschule Essen , which he has headed ever since, and where he works as a professor of composition, arrangement and theory. His book Jazz Arrangement is considered a standard work in German-speaking countries.
