Adam Kolker

Adam Kolker (born December 12, 1958 in Manhattan , New York City ) is an American jazz musician ( woodwind instruments , composition ).

Live and act

Kolker grew up in Philadelphia and received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Miami and a Master of Arts from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Since 1984 he was a member of the twelve-member formation Orange Then Blue , on whose albums he was involved until 1989. He also worked in various Broadway touring orchestras before he came to New York in 1989 and became a member of Ray Barretto's band, of which he was a member until 2002. He was also on Barretto's albums My Summertime (1995) and Contact! (1997) involved for Blue Note .

In the following years he also worked with Gunther Schuller , the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra , Maria Schneider , Kenny Wheeler , Bruce Barth , Rick Margitza , Luciana Souza , Judi Silvano , David Berkman , John Hébert , Peter Herborn , Billy Hart , Allan Chase , Bobby Previte , Bruce Saunders , Frank Carlberg , Matt Haimovitz , Marc Cohn , Lucia Pulido and Mike Holober ( Hiding Out , 2019). In 1999 Kolker released the album Crazy Bird (Challenge / A Records) under his own name , on which Tim Hagans , Kevin Hays , Jeff Ballard and Doug Weiss participated. The productions Meditaciones (Satchmo, with Xavi Maureta), Sultanic Verses and Flag Day with John Abercrombie and Paul Motian followed in the 2000s . From 1999 to 2007 he also taught at the University of Massachusetts . In the field of jazz he was involved in 54 recording sessions between 1985 and 2014. a. in later years also with Cecilia Coleman , Marty Ehrlich and Rob Garcia . In 2018 he worked on David Berkman's album Six of One .
