Scott Wendholt

Scott Wendholt (born July 21, 1965 in Denver , Colorado ) is an American jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player .

Live and act

Wendholt grew up in Mile High City and began taking trumpet lessons in high school. His school friend Greg Gisbert made him aware of the music of Art Blakeys . At the beginning of his career he played a. a. with Gisbert, Javon Jackson and John Gunther .

From 1983 to 1987 he studied at Indiana University in the David Baker's Jazz Studies Program , where he earned a Bachelor's degree. He also worked in pop and jazz with artists such as Ralph Bowen and Chris Botti . He then lived in Cincinnati until 1989 , where he had an engagement in the King's Island amusement park, next to it as a sideman with Bill Cunliffe or Phil De Greg . Since the 1990s he has worked in the New York post-bop scene a. a. with David Berkman , Don Braden , Dwayne Burno , Alan Ferber , Kevin Hays , Vincent Herring , Jim McNeely , Roberta Piket , Tim Ries , Jim Trompeter , Klaus Suonsaari and with Bobby McFerrin ( Bang! Zoom , 1996). Wendholt also played in numerous big bands , such as Toshiko Akiyoshi , John Fedchock , Woody Herman , Bob Mintzer , Buddy Rich , Maria Schneider , Gary Smulyan , the Mingus Big Band , Mike Holober & The Gotham Jazz Orchestra ( Hiding Out , 2019) the Carnegie Hall Big Band , and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra as the successor to Thad Jones . In 1998 he was a guest soloist in The George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band ( Liebermann ). In 1993 he recorded his debut album The Scheme of Things for Criss Cross Jazz . Currently (2019) he leads a quartet that includes Adam Kolker , Ugonna Okegwo and Victor Lewis .
