Liebfrauenkirche (Sachsenheim)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Liebfrauenkirche was a monastery church in the Stromberg forest near the Schlierkopf north of Häfnerhaslach in what is now the city of Sachsenheim in the Baden-Württemberg district of Ludwigsburg .

The church, which belonged to the Frauenzimmern-Kirchbach monastery, existed until the middle of the 16th century. After it became dilapidated, Duke Christoph von Württemberg gave the order to demolish it, which was carried out in 1556 and 1557; the monarch wanted to prevent pilgrimage sites from developing in Protestant Württemberg .

In 2011, local hobby archaeologists unlawfully uncovered the floor plan of the building they had found. After measurements and documentation by specialist archaeologists from the State Monuments Office , the site was covered again.
