Ludwig Nuss

Ludwig Nuss , also Ludwig Nuss, (* 1961 ) is a German jazz trombonist .

Live and act

Nuss studied with Jiggs Whigham in Cologne . He completed the concert exam in the jazz trombone department with distinction. Nuss initially worked as a freelance musician in the Cologne studio scene and made countless recordings for radio, television and sound carriers.

Between 1992 and 1996 he was a member of the SDR Big Band in Stuttgart. In addition to his work as lead trombonist and jazz soloist in the WDR Big Band Cologne , Nuss is active in many areas of the German and European jazz scene. He gives concerts in a duo with the pianist Michael Abene , in his trio with John Goldsby and Benyamin Nuss and with various quartet or quintet line-ups. In the past, this included Jazzed Friends with trumpeter Ingolf Burkhardt , the bands MIBLUe and Legal Paradizer with saxophonist Peter Less and ensembles with his brother, pianist Hubert Nuss .

As a sideman , he is international on numerous recordings ( Bob Brookmeyer , Bill Holman , Patti Austin , Frank Foster , Rob McConnell , Lalo Schifrin , Phil Woods , Slide Hampton , Vince Mendoza , Brecker Brothers , Peter Erskine , Manny Albam , Bob Mintzer etc.) and national jazz musicians ( Paul Kuhn , Peter Herbolzheimer , German Jazzorchester, Thilo Berg Big Band, Bill Ramsey , Dieter Reith , Peter Fessler , All That Jazz etc.).

In addition to his work as a band musician, he is committed to promoting young talent, both as a trombone teacher for individual students and as a tutor at jazz workshops. Between 2007 and 2012 he was professor for jazz trombone at the Jazz Institute Berlin . His sons Benyamin Nuss as pianist and Jonathan Nuss as trombonist also decided on a career as a musician.
