Peter Fessler (* 1959 in Cologne ) is a German jazz musician ( vocals and guitar ) and songwriter.
biography
Fessler received his first guitar lessons from his discoverer and mentor Rick Abao at the age of twelve . After his school days, he spent a long time in the USA , where he continued to devote himself to music. The singer with Canadian - Polish - German roots played sessions in clubs, bars and hotels in New York and San Francisco . During this time, I also wrote my first own compositions.
In Germany, Fessler, whose voice spans four octaves , began studying singing in the jazz seminar at the Musikhochschule in Cologne, and from 1983 to 1987 he became a singer with Trio Rio , a Latin jazz band that hit New York-Rio-Tokyo in 1986 got known. In order to further realize his own musical ideas, Fessler moved back to the United States for some time , where he devoted himself to songwriting and among other things. a. worked with Sheila E. and Chaka Khan .
The return to Germany followed in 1991 with the first solo album My Songs and various radio and TV productions. Fessler became the German voice of Aladdin in the Walt Disney production of the same name . The result was the song A dream comes true , a duet with Sabine Hettlich . After the release of the 1993 album Don't Tell Me , Fessler devoted himself mainly to a jazz and latin jazz repertoire and composed his own pieces.
The 2000 album Signatures only contained his own compositions. Al Jarreau brought him on stage with his guitar as a duet partner at the jazz festival in Montreux . Fessler was also a special guest on Randy Crawford's 1999 tour. At the end of 2003 he performed in Tokyo. With his fusion of voice and classical guitar, he has since found a new sound aesthetic. On his album Das mit dir (2010) he interprets German poetry by Miriam Frances , Erich Kästner and Alexander Bragao . On the album Spirit of Christmas (2013) by Pee Wee Ellis he interpreted the pop classic Last Christmas .
In 2014 Fessler was awarded the ECHO Jazz in the category “Best National Singer” for his album Quality Time (with Don Grusin ) and in the same year set his new standards for the improvisational language “Fesperanto” with the CD Intro da vida .
