Peter Fessler (born September 22, 1928 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer and former constitutional judge . Fessler was a member of the Austrian Constitutional Court from 1974 to 1998 .

Career

Peter Fessler was born on September 22, 1928 in the Austrian capital Vienna and grew up there. He completed his law studies at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in law in 1951 . Following his court practice , Fessler joined the concept service of the Vienna Federal Police Directorate as a civil servant in 1953 . From 1957 he worked in his office for association law matters. In 1962 he was appointed to the Federal Ministry of the Interior to work in the department for personnel and training matters of the Federal Police. Subsequently, he rose to the position of deputy department head in the area of ​​general presidential affairs.

On March 11, 1974, Peter Fessler was appointed a member of the Constitutional Court by Federal President Franz Jonas on the proposal of the National Council . From 1975 he was one of the permanent speakers within the VfGH. Fessler remained a member of the VfGH until his constitutionally required retirement on December 31, 1998, the end of the year in which he turned 70. In 1999, he also retired from the Ministry of Interior.
