Don Grusin
Donald Henri "Don" Grusin (born April 22, 1941 in Denver , Colorado ) is an American pianist and keyboard player of fusion and smooth jazz , in which he integrates Latin elements.
Life
Grusin grew up as the son of a violinist with classical music; his older brother is the jazz pianist Dave Grusin . Don Grusin studied economics and then worked as a lecturer at the University of Colorado and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México . In addition, he occasionally played in clubs with traveling musicians such as Gary Burton or Zoot Sims . In 1972 he moved to California with the musicians of the fusion band Azteca and after a Japan tour with Quincy Jones decided to become a professional musician. In Los Angeles from 1976 he worked with musicians such as Lee Ritenour , Diane Schuur , Eric Marienthal , Abe Laboriel , Milt Jackson , Joe Pass , Sadao Watanabe , Patti Austin , Casiopea and Stanley Turrentine . In 1981 he released his first own album, which was followed by numerous other albums. For the album "Musician", which he produced for Ernie Watts in 1985, he received a Grammy as a producer. Grusin works primarily as a producer and runs the label "Bad Dog Music", which also has a studio attached.
