Eric Marienthal (born December 13, 1957 in Sacramento , California ) is an American saxophonist.

Live and act

After graduating from high school in 1976, he went to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he was tutored by Joe Viola. He left college five years later with one of the highest honors, the Berklee Distinguished Alumni Award for outstanding achievments in contemporary music .

In 1980 he went to Los Angeles. There he found accommodation with a Dixieland band and played with Al Hirt . He was discovered by Chick Corea , who signed him for his Elektric Band . He produced six albums with Corea and they won two Grammys. But soon he signed his own contract and Marienthal produced his first own album Voices of the Heart .

But now he was also in demand as a studio musician. In well over 50 recordings he played with well-known musicians such as Lee Ritenour , Dave Grusin , David Benoit , Don Grusin , Dave Weckl , John Patitucci and the Rippingtons and with the GRP All Stars , but also in other genres, such as Elton John , Stevie Wonder , Jeff Lorber or Burt Bacharach . In 2013, 2014 and 2015 he toured Switzerland and Germany with the Dani Felber Big Band Explosion.

Every summer he also hosts a charity concert for High Hopes Head Injury Program , an organization that works for traumatically brain injured people and is based in Orange, California. Marienthal has also authored the textbooks Comprehensive Jazz Studies & Exercises , The Ultimate Jazz Play Along and The Music Of Eric Marienthal .
