Trio Rio was a German pop group that had their only chart hit in 1986 with New York - Rio - Tokyo .

history

In 1983 the singer Peter Fessler (* 1959 ) founded the band together with Cläusel Quitschau and Klaus Mages . She essentially played jazz standards with Latin American rhythms. Two years later, Oliver Heuss joined the group and changed the concept in a more commercial direction. Now they tried to fuse South American rhythms, rock and Latin rock . However, they were only commercially successful with one single title: New York - Rio - Tokyo , which made it to number three in the German single charts as a one-hit wonder in 1986 . Peter Fessler was initially mistaken for the US singer Al Jarreau for this title . The corresponding long player also made it into the charts at number 23. However, it was not possible to build on these initial successes. The second single Voulez voulez vous was a flop. In 1987, Serge Maillard replaced Fessler and Mages. With him they released the album Voodoo Nights . The band split up in 1990.

After Trio Rio

  • Peter Fessler released his first solo album My Songs in 1991 ! and came in 1993 with Conquer Me from the album Don't Tell Me (Metronome) to a first solo success. He then released some albums on minor music , on which he again mainly interpreted jazz standards. In 2000 he switched to the Skip Label, after which his music became a bit more poppy again.
  • Klaus Mages later played with the Rainbirds .
  • Today Oliver Heuss composes film and television music.
