minor music is a German independent jazz label . It was founded in 1984 by Stephan Meyner.
history
Meyner, who previously worked as a music journalist, concert promoter and tour organizer, founded the label in order to publish the debut album The Printmaker by pianist Geri Allen, whom he oversees . Soon more albums appeared, including a. by Amina Claudine Myers , Julius Hemphill , Tim Berne / Bill Frisell and Ray Anderson and allowed the label to be established internationally. In 1987 the sub-label Rhythm Attack was founded, which published funk , contemporary R&B and hip-hop by musicians such as Chuck Brown , Bobby Byrd and Boogie Down Productions .
The album Roots Revisited (1990) by Maceo Parker showed a change in the aesthetic focus; He was followed by other albums by Parker and musicians from his environment such as Fred Wesley , Pee Wee Ellis , Karl Denson , Rodney Jones , Larry Goldings or Peter Madsen on the label.
