Afrob (born August 1, 1977 in Italy ; real name Robert Zemichiel ) is a German rapper and actor of Eritrean origin.

biography

Afrob was born in Italy and came to Germany at the age of three months. He grew up in Braunschweig, Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, where he began his career as a musician. In 1994 his rap career started as a feature artist for befriended crews such as the Massive Töne , Freundeskreis (FK) and the Berliner Spezializtz . Afrob continued his musical career within the Stuttgart posse “ Die Kolkhose ”, “ FK Allstars ” (including Max Herre , Joy Denalane , Gentleman and Sékou ) and with the “ Brothers Keepers ”. A friendship connects him with the rap musician Samy Deluxe , in whose solo albums he participated and with whom he also founded the project " ASD ".

In 1999 Afrob released his first solo album Rolle with Hip Hop on the Four Music label . The album reached number 13 in the German charts. In addition, the single Reimemonster appeared with Ferris MC . For the album Afrob worked with many musicians from Stuttgart (e.g. Wasi, DJ Friction and Max Herre). In May 1999 Afrob was on tour with his label colleagues from Freundeskreis, and in autumn 1999 he toured the whole of Germany with the Fantastischen Vier . At the end of 1999 he rapped the song 1, 2, 3, ... Rhymes Galore on the single by DJ Tomekk and Grandmaster Flash , which reached number 6 in the German charts, together with Flavor Flav from Public Enemy and MC Rene .

Two years later his second album Made in Germany was released via Four Music , which Afrob calls his best album to this day. Made in Germany has significantly more political content than a role with hip hop . Once again, the rapper worked with well-known artists such as Ferris MC , Joy Denalane and Gentleman .

In the spring of 2003 he and Samy Deluxe released their joint album Who would have thought that? , which is Afrob's most successful album to date. It reached number 5 in the charts and this time was also produced by American producers (e.g. Waajeed and J Dilla ).

Building on the success of ASD, Afrob announced his third solo album for 2005. The long player called Hammer was released on February 28, 2005 by Four Music and was produced by numerous well-known American producers such as Needlz, Waajeed and B. R. Gunna. Nevertheless Afrob could not build on his earlier successes and for this reason withdrew for the first time in order to work on the solo album Eine wie keine by rapper Lisi in 2006 .

The following year, 2007, Afrob made an appearance in the comedy Leroy . He also appeared in the gangster film Heads or Tails .

In 2008, together with rapper Brixx, he produced the new title song for the RTL series Alarm für Cobra 11 - Die Autobahnpolizei and left the Four Music label to found his own label called “G-Lette Music”. In the same year Afrob began his work on the new album The Last of its Kind , which was finally released on September 4, 2009.

After a somewhat longer creative break, Afrob could be heard again for the first time on the very successful song by Sido 30-11-80 . The fifth solo album Push was released on May 30, 2014.

On July 3, 2015 Afrob released Samy Deluxe, the second ASD album after twelve years, entitled Blockbasta . His sixth studio album Mutterschiff followed on September 23, 2016 . In 2017 Afrob released his seventh solo album, Beats, Rhymes & Mr. Scardanelli .

In 2019 Afrob released his solo album Farewell to Yesterday . Afrob talks about his hip-hop career and the people from the hip-hop community he met and who inspired him. In the song refugee4life , Afrob also speaks about xenophobia and the racism that he experienced in Germany.

Afrob is now active on social media such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. On April 21, 2020, Afrob made an online showcase with DJ Derezon for United We Stream to support the Hamburg club scene, which was officially shut down at the time due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Afrob has been a long-time fan of VfB Stuttgart .
