Sékou (rapper)

Sékou "The Ambassador" (born June 16, 1971 in Boston , actually Ahmed Sékou Neblett also known as MC Koukou ) is an American rapper , singer , songwriter , publisher and filmmaker. He became known through his collaboration, also in German, with the hip-hop group Freundeskreis and, with them, shaped German-language hip-hop music in the late 1990s.

biography

Sékou first grew up in Boston, from 1976 to 1984 he lived in Düsseldorf . He came back to Germany in 1993 as part of a student exchange program. Here he began to get involved in various bands in Freiburg. He decided not to return to the US. In 1997 he met in Stuttgart on Max Herre . He has been a permanent feature artist at Freundeskreis since the album Quadratur des Kreises. Sékou was on tour with Freundeskreis for a long time and also participated in the FK Allstars.

He is active with the Brothers Keepers . In 2003 he founded the publishing house “Red-Black-Green” with Afrob (based on the pan-African colors ). Afrob has now dropped out there.

While squaring the circle, he rapped in both German and English. Later only in his native English.

In 2015 he released his debut film as a film director, the Mockumentary Blacktape .
