history

Circle of Friends (1998)
Freundeskreis producer DJ Friction

The band from Stuttgart sees itself as a representative of Conscious Rap . The Freundeskreis is known for its political texts in which it advocates equality and international understanding. After the highly acclaimed debut album Quadratur des Kreises and the hit single ANNA that was extracted from it, the album was released in 1999 with the single Esperanto of the same name , named after the planned language Esperanto . The reason given for the name of the album was that hip-hop should be the Esperanto of youth. The subtitle "Amikaro" means "circle of friends" in Esperanto. The intro text of the album, spoken by Jean Codjo from Benin , is also in Esperanto. Max Herre is also one of the founders of the Kolkhoz , a musical-political alliance.

Other titles like Mit dich mit Joy Denalane orTabula Rasa Pt. 2 continued to bring considerable success and the group into the German charts . Freundeskreis also covered the song Hold on to your love (on Lee Perry's Police and Thieves Riddim) by Rio Reiser and Ton Steine Scherben for the soundtrack of film 23 - Nothing is as it seems .

FK Allstars is an amalgamation of various hip-hop and reggae artists such as Afrob , Brooke Russell , Sékou , Joy Denalane, Wasi and Gentleman . Although the band of FK Allstars has its roots in hip-hop, different styles of music such as reggae , jazz , soul or funk mix in the musical design. The band was often referred to as one of the best hip-hop live acts in Germany, also because they renounced the usual hip-hop method of “one microphone and two record decks” and, like Die Fantastischen Vier , performed concerts with live musicians occurred. Many other hip-hop acts followed this example.

Since 2000, the group ceased to appear in public as the members concentrated on their solo careers. By far the most publicly active was Max Herre, whose first album Max Herre was released in 2004. He also produced his wife Joy Denalane's albums and worked for Four Music .

In July 2007 a best-of album / DVD including two unpublished titles was released. For the tenth anniversary in 2007 Freundeskreis ( FK 10 ) performed at various festivals in German-speaking countries. On September 19, 2007, Freundeskreis gave their farewell concert in Stuttgart's Gazi Stadium on the Waldau .

In June 2017 the band performed again.
