Silvia Droste (born May 21, 1960 in Herne ) is a German jazz singer and saxophonist.

Droste began playing the saxophone in her school band at Haranni High School at the age of 14 , initially in the traditional Dixieland style. In the 1980s she performed with bands such as von Acker Bilk and Chris Barber , Papa Bue's Viking Jazzband and the Dutch Swing College Band . In 1983 she was in the NRW youth jazz orchestra and won first prize at " Jugend jazzt ". At the same time, from 1978 to 1984, she studied pedagogy, English and Romance languages ​​at the Ruhr University in Bochum . After the state examination, she studied jazz at the Cologne University of Music . In 1984 she founded her quartet "Voicings", with which she was on the road until 1990, and turned to more modern jazz styles such as swing and bebop influences. For her first CD "Audiophile Voicings" (1987, Jeton) with her quartet Voicings, she received the quarterly award of the German Record Critics . In 1987 she received the sponsorship award from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .
