Thomas Brill

Thomas Brill (* 1957 in Remscheid ) is a German multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, piano, vocals) and arranger who is also active as a musical director, conductor and music teacher. His works are primarily in the field of jazz . In addition to jazz, his favorite styles are blues , rock , fusion and funk .

Live and act

Brill has been working as a music teacher for concert guitar, electric guitar and electric bass at various institutes such as the Beckum / Warendorf Music School, the University of Dortmund and the Dortmund University of Music since the age of 18. Brill lives and works in Remscheid, where he also teaches at the Remscheid Music and Art School.

In 1982 he was a guitarist in the State Youth Jazz Orchestra of North Rhine-Westphalia . Between 1983 and 1988 he worked as a guitarist and arranger for Silvia Droste , u. a. also as musical director of the group "Silvia Droste's Voicings", with which he came to two albums. Then he worked as a guitarist for Barbara Dennerlein (including a trio appearance in 1988 on the ZDF program Jazz Club ). As the guitarist and conductor of the Groovin 'High- Big Band, they worked together in 1989. a. with Peter Herbolzheimer & Bobby Shew (here as arranger and musician on a total of 3 CD productions).

Between 1991 and 1997 he performed in a duo with the Wuppertal jazz singer Uli Wewelsiep . He was also conductor, arranger and guitarist for the Texan singer Denice Brooks, musical director and guitarist of her band (1992-1995) and arranger, guitarist and musical director of the Brazilian singer Rosani Reis (1993-1996). Since 2005 he has been working with the band Voyagers , who performed with numerous international artists such as Deborah Brown , Harriet Lewis and Elon Bivins . Since 2008 he has been a guitarist for Walther Uhling & Orchester Sender Freier Swing .

His musical activity is also documented in the form of TV broadcasts. Brill is also active as a studio musician, producer, composer and freelance musician.

Since 1981, Brill has also worked as a guitarist, bassist and arranger for stage and orchestral productions. These include the musicals “ Show Boat ”, “ Cabaret ”, “ Mahagonny ”, “ The Threepenny Opera ”, “ West Side Story ”, “La Cage Aux Folles”, “ Pajama Game ”, “ Anatevka ”, “ My Fair Lady” ”,“ Little Shop Of Horrors ”,“ Jesus Christ Superstar ”,“ Rocky Horror Picture Show ”,“ Tommy ”,“ Hair ”,“ The Man from La Mancha ”as well as revues and incidental music like“ Ebony and Ivory ”,“ Elvis loves you ”,“ Little man, now what? Prizes and awards

In 1981, Brill was a prizewinner at the Young Talent Festival of the German Phono Academy and in 1992 a prizewinner at the state competition Jugend jazzt (Dortmund) . With Droste he received the quarterly award of the German Record Critics for the CD Audiophile Voicings .
