Jugend jazzt is a nationwide German music competition for young people and young adults up to the age of 24 to promote particularly talented young people. Young musicians and their bands have the chance to put their skills to the test in front of the jury and audience. Jugend jazzt is the jazz counterpart to the Jugend musiziert competition .

The competition is for jazz - ensemble designed with two to ten members. It will initially be held at the state level; There the ensembles perform several pieces of music, which are then evaluated by a jury . Starting in 2010, big bands with eleven or more participants will also be admitted to the competition. The first prize winners from each federal state will then compete at the federal level. This federal meeting is held every two years in a different major city. Since “Jugend jazzt” was founded in 1997, competitions have been held in Düsseldorf (1997), Rostock (1999), Erfurt (2001), Bonn (2003), Koblenz (2005), Halle an der Saale (2007) and Hanover ( 2009). In addition to the actual competition event, "Jugend jazzt" also acts as a festival , concert platform, contact and information exchange, but workshops and seminars are also offered.

The competition is sponsored by the German Music Council , the main sponsors are the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth and DeutschlandRadio .
