Jean-Marie Machado

Jean-Marie Machado (* 1961 in Tangier ) is a French jazz pianist and composer .

Machado is the son of a Portuguese guitarist and an Italian singer; he came to France at the age of ten, where he became a piano student of Catherine Collard at the age of twelve and studied music theory . In the mid-1980s he became known as the leader of the Trio Machado , with whom he released several albums on Label Bleu . He later led groups such as Vibracordes (with Naná Vasconcelos ) and the French Piano Trio (with Martial Solal ).

In 2000 Machado founded the group Lyrisme , which brought together the musicians Riccardo Del Fra , Jacques Mahieux and - alternately - Andy Sheppard , Paolo Fresu and Glenn Ferris . In 2003 he founded the sextet Andaloucia (with Andy Sheppard, Gary Valente , Claus Stötter , Bart de Nolf and Jacques Mahieux), with which he dedicated himself to traditional Spanish music. He has also been working in a duo with the American saxophonist David Liebman since 2003 . With André Minvielle he recorded a tribute album to Boby Lapointe .
