Didier Ithursarry (born January 1, 1970 in Bayonne ) is a French jazz musician ( accordion ).

Ithursarry discovered the accordion at the age of 7; he received music lessons (including solfeggio and drums) at the conservatory in his hometown. Between 1988 and 1992 he studied in the accordion class of Myriam Bonnin at the Orsay National Conservatory , where he was awarded a gold medal and a state teaching diploma. In addition to his studies, he performed in different constellations in the Basque Country.

In 1996 Ithursarrry moved to Paris, where he accompanied singers such as Clarika, Susy Firth, Manau and Juan Carlos Caceres, as a theater musician and on the jazz scene with Serge Luc, Jacques Vidal , William Chabbey and in the Trio Jauvain / Ithursarry / Bras and as a studio musician ( Bernard Lavilliers , Zaz , Ute Lemper , Julien Clerc ) worked. From 1998 he worked for several tours and albums with Francois Béranger; he also arranged for his tribute album for Félix Leclerc ( Chansons de Félix chantées par François Béranger ). Then Claude Barthélémy brought him first to his quintet Sereine and from 2002 to 2005 to the Orchester National de Jazz . 2006 Ithursarrry founded the duo Bilika with the singer and drummer Kristof Hiriart. In 2008 he accompanied Sanseverino . For several albums he worked with Jean-Marie Machado and the Orchester de Danzas, but also with Christophe Monniot in the Trio Station Mir . He also played with Claus Stötter , Claudia Solal , François Thuillier , Joce Mienniel, Henning Sieverts , François Merville , Sébastien Boisseau , François Ripoche and Sylvain Rifflet . In 2012 he founded the Duo Oboréades with the oboist Jean-Luc Fillon (album of the same name).

Together with Jean-Charles Richard, Mátyás Szandai and Joe Quitzke , Ithursarrry's Quartet Kantuz was created in 2014 (album of the same name). He also took part in the symphonic projects Mégapolis by Guillaume St. James and Brothers in Arms by St. James and Chris Brubeck , with whom he also appeared in the USA. He was also active in the Brass Dance Orchestra of François Thuillier, Jean-Louis Pommier and Geoffroy Tamisier. In 2016 Ithursarrry formed the duo Lua with Jean-Marie Machado ; Several times he collaborated with the duo Jean-Christophe Cholet / Matthieu Michel ( Whispers and Extended Whispers ), with whom he also toured internationally. In 2017, Guillaume St. James wrote Sketches of Seven for him , a concerto for accordion and symphony orchestra, which was premiered with the Orchester National de Bretagne . In the same year the duo Monniot / Ithursarry ( Hymnes à l'amour ) and the trio Terranova / Venitucci / Ithursarry were born. His album Atea was released in 2020 as a trio with flutist Joce Mienniel and guitarist Pierre Durand .

Prizes and awards

Ithursarrry was awarded the Prix ​​Gus Viseur in the Jazz category in 2008 . In 2014 he was appointed Artiste Génération Spedidam for three years by the copyright organization Spedidam .
