Chris Brubeck

Christopher "Chris" Brubeck (born March 19, 1952 in Los Angeles ) is an American musician ( bass trombone , electric bass , piano , guitar) and composer who has emerged in the field of jazz and rock music as well as classical music.

Live and act

Brubeck comes from a musical family; his father is the jazz legend Dave Brubeck ; his brothers are Darius , Dan Brubeck and Matthew Brubeck. As a child he took piano lessons, in high school he learned the trombone and then attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts . He was a member of the rock band New Heavenly Blue on both albums (first Educated Homegrown , 1970). From 1972 he was with his father, the brothers Darius and Dan and other musicians in Two Generations of Brubeck ( Brother, the Great Spirit Made Us All 1974) to work in the rock band Sky King . He then performed with the father and brothers in The New Brubeck Quartet ( Live at Montreux 1978); Between 1978 and 1988 he was the bass player in his father's quartet.

Together with the guitarist Joel Brown and the singer and banjo player Bill Crofut , he worked in a crossover trio in the 1990s that released several albums. After Crofut's death, Brubeck and Brown have appeared in the crossover trio Triple Play with harmonica player Peter Madcat Ruth since 2000 .

With Andy LaVerne and his brother Dan he was already active in the Brubeck LaVerne Trio in 1972 ; Since 1999 he has been playing with both musicians in the Brubeck Brothers project , with which he was in Europe in 2016. In 2004 he performed his The Prague Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra with the Czech National Symphony. He also composed symphonies, chamber and choral music. With Dave Brubeck he wrote the symphonic piece Ansel Adams America , which was nominated for a Grammy in 2013 .
