Orsay is a French commune in the department of Essonne in the region of Ile-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement Palaiseau and is the administrative seat of the Communauté Paris-Saclay .
geography
The city with 16,421 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) is located in the Yvette valley 30 kilometers south-southwest of central Paris .
Infrastructure
The city is home to the predominantly scientific branch of the Paris University XI (mathematics, physics, biology, medicine, sports science). One of the largest physical research institutes in France is located on campus. a. with the research center IN2P3 for nuclear physics .
