Saint-Michel-sur-Orge is a French commune with 19,758 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Essonne department of the Île-de-France region . It is located around 25 kilometers southwest of the French capital Paris on the small river Orge .
The neighboring communities are Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois in the north and east , Le Plessis-Pâté in the south-east, Brétigny-sur-Orge in the south and Longpont-sur-Orge in the west .

The city has a train station on the RER C line of S-Bahn traffic in the Île-de-France region and is thus integrated into the local public transport system in the greater Paris area. Several bus routes complete this offer.
The Route Nationale 104, a section of the Francilienne and the European Route 50, runs south of the city .

Town twinning
Saint-Michel-sur-Orge is twinned with the German municipality of Püttlingen in Saarland and with Ber in Mali. As part of a European partnership agreement signed in 1996, Saint-Michel-sur-Orge is also linked to Senftenberg (Germany), Veszprém (Hungary), Žamberk (Czech Republic) and Nowa Sól (Poland). In 2002 the Italian municipality Fresagrandinaria also joined.
