Les Ulis is a French commune in the outskirts of Paris with 25,208 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Essonne in the region of Ile-de-France in France .
geography
Les Ulis is located 23 kilometers southwest of the city center in the Unité urbaine of Paris.
history
The city of Les Ulis became an independent municipality on February 17, 1977 from the Palaiseau sub-prefecture . The settlement was built between 1963 and 1979. As early as 1960, plans were made to build a large housing estate, a so-called "Zone à urbaniser en priorité" with 10,000 apartments , in order to create new living space in the area of the municipalities of Bures-sur-Yvette and Orsay .

Town twinning
Les Ulis has had a partnership with Thetford in England since 1996 . The partnership with Sédhiou in Senegal has existed since 1998. Since 2011, the small Portuguese town of Sátão has also had a partnership with Les Ulis. On April 12, 2019, the partnership between Les Ulis and the city of Naumburg (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt was sealed by the mayors of the cities in Les Ulis.
economy
The Parc d'Activité de Courtabœuf , an industrial park with an area of 378 hectares, more than 1000 companies and 24,500 employees, also extends over the areas of the communes of Villebon-sur-Yvette and Villejust , but is largely in the area of the commune of Les Ulis .
