traffic

Since the entire Sédhiou département is not accessible from the trunk road network in Senegal due to its isolated location between the lower reaches of the Casamance River and Soungrougrou , only regional roads from the west and north lead to Sédhiou. To the west the R 21 leads over the ferry from Marsassoum to Bignona and Ziguinchor and to the north the R 22 goes to Madina Wandifa and Bounkiling . The road crosses the Soungrougrou near the village of Diaroumé and in Madina Wandifa it joins the N 4 known as the Transgambienne . This connects the west and north of Casamance via Gambia as well as via Nioro du Rip and Kaolack with the rest of the country.

At Diendé, a road branches off the northern route eastwards to Kolda , where a bridge crosses the Casamance River and creates a connection to the N 6 that accompanies the south bank . Otherwise, the south bank can only be reached by water. In Sédhiou there is a ferry that reaches the other bank at Sandinièr with a 2400 meter crossing .
