Nioro du Rip is a city in the southern center of Senegal . It is the prefecture of the Nioro du Rip department in the Kaolack region .
Geographical location
Nioro du Rip is located in the south of the Kaolack region , 53 kilometers from the Kaolack regional prefecture and 17 kilometers north of the border with Gambia . The city is the center of the southern peanut basin .
history
The city of Nioro du Rip got its name in 1861 after the conquest by the marabout Maba Diakhou Bâ , who named his state Rip and who named the city after the Malian city of Nioro du Sahel in honor of his ally El Hadj Umar Tall , who had conquered that city a few years earlier.

Nioro du Rip is an important stage on the national road N 4 , which branches off from the N 1 to the southeast in Kaolack , there first crosses the Saloum , in Nioro takes a country road coming from Kaffrine 45 kilometers away , after a further 11 kilometers the 1000 meters here wide Grand Bao Bolon crosses towards the Gambian transit route of the Trans-Gambia Highway , via which the southern Senegalese Casamance and the city of Ziguinchor can be reached.
