Nioro du Rip is a city in the southern center of Senegal . It is the prefecture of the Nioro du Rip department in the Kaolack region .

Geographical location

Nioro du Rip is located in the south of the Kaolack region , 53 kilometers from the Kaolack regional prefecture and 17 kilometers north of the border with Gambia . The city is the center of the southern peanut basin .

history

The city of Nioro du Rip got its name in 1861 after the conquest by the marabout Maba Diakhou Bâ , who named his state Rip and who named the city after the Malian city ​​of Nioro du Sahel in honor of his ally El Hadj Umar Tall , who had conquered that city a few years earlier.
