The city is located 270 kilometers southeast of Dakar , 39 kilometers north of the Sédhiou regional prefecture and six kilometers east of Bounkiling . The city is located seven kilometers north of the Soungrougrou , which here, 120 km east of the Atlantic coast , has a width of about 850 meters under the leaching influence of the tidal currents and is crossed at this point by a combined dam and bridge construction. history

The village of Madina Wandifa was united with the village of Toua el Hadji in 2008 and gained the status of a commune (city). From the transformer station, the urban area extends a certain number of kilometers in all four directions. This resulted in a calculated urban area of 14.0 km².

Thanks to its convenient location, the number of residents has doubled to 14,000 within a few years. The supply of drinking water in particular was unable to keep pace with this dynamic development. After years of scarcity of drinking water, it was decided in 2017 to drill wells and build a water tower.
