Igny is a French municipality with 10,052 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Essonne in the region of Ile-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement Palaiseau and the canton of the same name Palaiseau .

geography

Igny lies on the Bièvre , a tributary of the Seine . Igny is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Verrières-le-Buisson in the north and north-east, Massy in the east and south-east, Palaiseau in the south, Vauhallan in the south-west and Bièvres in the west and north-west.

history

The construction of a defensive tower is guaranteed for the 13th century. Rivus de Ignaco appears for the first time on a map of Philip II , on the site of today's Igny.
