Bures-sur-Yvette is a French municipality with 9804 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Essonne in the region of Ile-de-France . The inhabitants call themselves buressois .
geography
Bures-sur-Yvette is 23 kilometers southwest of Paris and 1.7 kilometers northwest of Les Ulis . The Yvette flows through the village . Bures-sur-Yvette consists of the localities of La Guyonnerie in the north, La Hacquinière in the west and Montjay in the south.
history
The coat of arms of the community was proposed on October 15, 1943, it is the coat of arms of Wilhelm I von Bures and Gottfried von Bures .
Attractions
- The Saint-Matthieu church dates from the 13th century. Inside there is a bell from 1756, a stone statue of the Virgin Mary from the 17th century and two grave slabs from the 16th century that are classified as Monument historique ( monument ).

Economy and Infrastructure
There are several institutes of the University of Paris-South in the village . In a laboratory at the university there is a particle accelerator (Anneau de Collisions d'Orsay) from the second half of the 20th century, which is entered in the additional directory of the Monuments historiques .
In addition, the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHÉS for short), a research institute for mathematics and theoretical physics, has been based in Bures-sur-Yvette since 1958.
