The commune of Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois is located about 25 kilometers south of central Paris. The Orge River marks the north-western boundary of the municipality.
Neighboring municipalities are Villemoisson-sur-Orge and Morsang-sur-Orge in the north, Fleury-Mérogis in the east, Le Plessis-Pâte in the south, Saint-Michel-sur-Orge and Longpont-sur-Orge in the west and Villiers-sur-Orge and Épinay-sur-Orge in the northwest.

Russian cemetery
The Russian cemetery of Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois and the associated Notre-Dame-de-la-Dormition church have been classified as a " Monument historique " since 2006 as a unique ensemble for France and "the world's largest Russian emigrant cemetery ". Rudolf Nurejew and Andrei Arsenjewitsch Tarkowski , among others, are buried there.
