Morsang-sur-Orge is a French municipality with 20,909 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Essonne in the region of Ile-de-France . The municipality is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois .
geography
Morsang-sur-Orge is located 21.5 kilometers south of Paris and about 7.5 kilometers south-southwest of Paris-Orly Airport. In the north of the municipality the Orge flows towards the confluence with the Yvette . Below the course of the river Orge lies the Bassin du Morsang , which is also used as a rainwater retention basin.
In the north-west lies the municipality of Villemoisson-sur-Orge , in the north Savigny-sur-Orge , east Viry-Châtillon , in the south-west Fleury-Mérogis and in the south and south-west Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois .

The A6 autoroute runs through the municipality from Paris to Lyon.
history
At the end of the 10th century in the time of Hugo Capets , the village was first mentioned as Murcinctus as the property of the Abbey of Saint Mangloire, and in the 12th century as Murcenc . The Saint-Jean church was built from the 13th century.
