Mennecy is a commune south of Paris with 14,319 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Essonne in the region of Ile-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement Evry and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of the same name Mennecy . The inhabitants are called Menneçois .
geography
Mennecy is in the Hurepoix countryside on the Essonne River . In the north the municipality is bounded by Lisses and Villabé , in the northeast by Ormoy , in the east and southeast by Le Coudray-Montceaux , in the south by Chevannes , in the west and southwest by Fontenay-le-Vicomte and in the northwest by Écharcon .

history
Mennecy is based on the remains of the Gallo-Roman oppidum Minacium . Mennecy gained its importance primarily through the establishment of the porcelain factory between 1738 and 1745, although it was closed again in 1777.
Population development
With the establishment of the planned town of Évry in the 1960s, the number of inhabitants also increased significantly in Mennecy.
